Reporting Insurance Claims

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE FILING A CLAIM:
- Is the dollar amount of my claim likely to exceed my deductible?
- If I have already filed a claim in the past 3 - 5 years is the damage minor and can I afford to pay for repairs out of pocket? (It is best to use your insurance policy for major claims.)
- If the other party is at fault, make sure that your insurance company files for information only. Your company will handle the claim if the other party does not have any insurance or you are unable to deal with the other company. However, if your damage is paid under your policy, a deductible will apply until your company can recover payment from the at fault party.
- It is an important condition of your policy that you provide timely notice of the claim to your insurance company.
- Once you make the call and say "I want to report a claim", the claim becomes part of your insurance record.
When you are ready to file the claim, you may call most companies directly.
You will need the insurance policy number before calling the company.
